July 2023 (Mini) Newsletter

As most of you know, we ran out our final stocks of Cuban coffee in February of this year. Domestic consumption sits at more than double the rate of production over there, with pests, tropical cyclones, climate change and an ever-present US trade embargo all hampering efforts at increasing outputs to a level that would sustain an ongoing export market.

Recently, they’ve started introducing Indonesian Robusta cuttings to the lowland areas in an effort to increase yields and serve the domestic market, but we still don’t know if this will mean an eventual return of the high-grown Arabicas to our shores in coming years.

All in all, sad news for fans of Cuban Arabica beans.

HOWEVER…

Recently, one of our roaster mates reached out to let us know he was still in possession of some green stock from the last big shipment that Australia received, and we gladly snapped it up! So until it’s gone, we’ll be enjoying our (hopefully not) final cups of Cuban coffee.
